Why Does God Hate Sin?

Why Does God Hate Sin? Sin.  A simple three letter word that has enormous negative consequences.  Sin is what keeps us from becoming what we were created to be.  Sin often disguises itself as merciful, accepting, fair, forthright, empowering, entertaining, necessary, inclusive, tolerant, and even fun.  Sin is like a sociopath, slowly, it befriends people, blinding them from the truth that would lead them to freedom, until it can overpower and ultimately, kill.  The bottom line – sin always leads to death.

Think about it.  Adultery kills marriages.  Lying kills relationships. Coveting kills generosity.  Envy kills love.  Murder kills the innocent. Grudges and unforgiveness kill families. Worshiping false gods kills faith, creating frustrated/empty/angry people with all sorts of answers to meaningless questions.  Would someone please tell me how do drug and alcohol abuse benefit the user or their loved ones?

Yes, God hates sin because it kills His children. Think about it:  God has hates sin because it kills His children.

It was sin that caused God’s only begotten Son, Jesus, the Messiah, to be murdered.  The cross is a physical manifestation of what sin is doing to everyone.  It is killing us.  It is killing you. Lies are like the whips that scarred Jesus’ back, slander like those who spat on Him, the crown of thorns like mocking God, the nails in His hands the marks of coveting, His death the result of all these sins.

But God is unwilling to stand-by and do nothing as His children die.  The cross proves this, as three days later; the power of God raised Jesus, the Savior, from the dead, proving that He is indeed the Son of God, having the power to overcome all sin and its outcome – death.  Yes…sin brings death.  Jesus Christ’s resurrection brings life.

So the question, what will we choose, life or death?  God wants everyone to choose life.  He knows that everyone has sinned, we are not fooling Him, but He has shown His love and patience for us in this – that even though the world is filled with sin, He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ to save the world. That’s right; God did not send Jesus to condemn you, but to save you.  (John 3:17) Jesus is holding out His hand to everyone saying, “Come home, all you who are tired and weary”…beaten up by your sins…“and I will give you rest”. (Matthew 11:28) Jesus says to all,  “I have come that you might have life” (John 10:10)…”Peace I bring to you” (John 14:27, John 20:19).   He knows every little sin we have ever committed, and yet He still says, “Come to me and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:27-18) Jesus does not want sin to kill us.

“For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus the Christ, and whoever believes in His name shall never die and will receive eternal life.” (John 3:16) The Bible says, “If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord, if you believe in you heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 8:9-10)…for we are saved by God’s grace, through faith in Christ, this comes not by our good works, so that nobody can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)

You see, there are only two types of people listening to this message, those that believe Jesus Christ is their Lord, the Son of God, and have received His gift of eternal life……and those who have not.  For the believer, your calling is to love the Lord fully, to love your enemy, your neighbor, and to enjoy His peace in a chaotic world.   To the unbeliever, you have the opportunity to live.  To walk away from the doubt, the fears, and the lies that are killing you by receiving the Truth, the Way, and the Life, the Messiah Jesus, as your Lord.  Take His offer of internal peace, joy, and love in this world, and then enjoy eternal life with Him in the next.

Please remember, God hates your sin of unbelief because it is killing you.  He loves you.  Just as you are.  The question is, do you love Him? Please, take His hand.  It is the one with the hole in it.  Take it!  Take His rest. Come home.   You can do it right now….
